Take these helpful steps after a flood.

After a flood, returning home may be scary seeing the amount of damage done to your home. Things necessary for you such as power, water, gas, etc may not be working. Here are some tips on how to recover;

  • It may be beneficial for you, friends, neighbors, and/or family to talk about their experience.
  • You can rely on information from your local authorities.
  • Welfare agencies may be available for you to seek support to.
  • Before cleaning up, make sure that all electricity and gas is shut off.
  • Get all of the electrical appliances checked by an electrician before use.
  • Dfes Gov states the following, “If you are insured, it is important to contact your insurer, request an assessment and specific advice relating to your policy before discarding, authorizing repairs or cleaning any damaged or flood affected property. It is best to take photographs, video footage and make an inventory of your property and contents to assist with the claims process
